I am trying to find out who may have made this lamp. There are no markings on it, I removed the piece of felt from the base to verify this. I do not know how to remove the shade. The shade has some type of metal around the edges. It appears to be old, it's heavy and probably bronze. The wiring has been updated as you can see in the picture.
    Thanks, James

These were used in the 20"s and 30's on pianos and roll top desks, as they could reach out over the edge and light the music and the keys or desk area. If there are no marks it will be kinda hard to identify the maker, unless you can find some old catalogues and find a exact match. It appears to be the original bronze finnish or patina. You should not polish it. Wipe it down with a damp cloth at most.

Tiffany Studios made a counterbalance lamp in this same shape, but I haven't seen this type of shade on any of the ones I have seen. Normally, it would have a shade holder with a paddle switch and thumb screws to hold a glass shade. Versions of this lamp with a Tiffany art glass shade sell at auction for $4,000.00-$10,000.00 depending on the rarity of the shade. Rocker-sd is correct on care, do not polish it or you will lose it's value.

veracruz, take the light bulb out of the lamp, and see if there is a collar holding the shade on the lamp from the inside of the shade. It might thread off. If this does not work maybe post some pictures of the socket inside of the shade.

This looks like a reproduction of a Tiffany Studios desk lamp base (#416?), possibly made by a small business called Rennaisance Marketing in Lake Orion, MI in the 80s/90s. I believe they moved to Florida and no longer do such work.
