Fragile. Favorite. Family. French. I love this old book. It is tattered with age and yet it is here. My great grandfather's business ledger. He was a judge, a bar owner, a justice of the peace , a mayor and apparently a shop keep as this book lists sales of many items. He fathered 10 children. I never knew the man but I have many photos and stories. He was born in Sermamagny, France in March of 1854 and came to the USA as a young man. First entry in book is dated September, 1878. It is written entirely in French. We have become such a disposable society. I am pleased that my parents and theirs did not pitch these relics!

thanks for the interest and comments, PostCardCollector! I do love history both on a personal level and expanding beyond! A few years back I met my grandmother's youngest sister. I did not realize she was still living as she had spent most of her adult life in another state and had recently moved back to her home town. It was so awesome to visit with her and hear stories of my grandmother who had died when I was a child. This lady looked like my grandmother and shared so much with my siblings and I in the form of memories and photos. Now that was special! She lived to be in her 90s.
thanks to everyone for the interest in my post!

You are lucky to have lots of photographs and other things from your family's past. I have got nearly nothing. Once my mum told me how she cut up old family pics to little pieces when she was a child...

blunderbuss2, thank you for your interest in my ledger and its history. He lived in Bonne Terre MO which is where his tavern was located.
martika, thank you for your interest in my ledger and I do appreciate my folks and ancestors holding on to so many interesting things. I also have a cousin who did extensive family history and shared volumes of info with me. I am very fortunate!
