This very beautiful set of elephants crossing a bridge over torrent waters was brought back from South Africa by my Granddad in the 1930's
I do not support killing elephants for their tusks & I am very happy it is now illegal & this does not happen anymore...
However, it is a very graceful beautiful piece of Art Deco
Hah, I wondered if it was ivory, I saw this very piece on Kovel's last week. You may want to take a look at the article it talks about the new regulations regarding ivory.
Thanks Katherine....I do know of new regulations around Ivory...however, I haven't really examined it closely as I inherited this from my granddad but I'll have to check it out more thoroughly....not actually sure what it is made of...possibly Ebony & Ivory???
It is very beautiful!
Maybe you should record it's provenance now, for the future, just in case.
Thank you...I will...cheers
Here is the Kovel's article, you will see why I thought your piece and the piece in there were very similar:

Oh yes Katherine....they are similar however, I think that one is pure Ivory....I don't think these elephants have more than 7oz's of Ivory all up...very informative piece...thank you so much
