I bought this oil painting at an estate sale (along with five others). The artist was a member of the Hoosier Art Salon in Indiana in 1934, and was a graphic artist in Fort Wayne. I loved his paintings but especially this one as it reminded me of my dad and grandfather's rice farming in earlier days. Good Indiana paintings are well sought after and I was able to sell the other five soon after purchasing them. This one I will keep. Enjoy.
I will have it framed at some point.

This painting immediately reminded me of my childhood and the Chicago Tribune Magazine. The painting "Injun Summer" by John McCutcheon ran on the cover of the magazine every autumn for years. The famous cartoonist and I have one thing in common--we are both Purdue graduates! I assume McCutcheon Hall was named after him. Are you a hoosier, cis2you? Check out this link: http://www.tuxjunction.net/injunsummer.html

I forgot about Monet's series of Haystack paintings. Several are housed at the Art Institute of Chicago where I saw them a number of years ago!

Youre right!! Monet and even shades of Van Gogh (more subtle, of course).
The Art Institute of Chicago is a great place to spend time. They have a large collection of Georgia O'keefe too.
No, Im not a Hoosier, but love the state and found recently through my daughters Ancestry.com search, that I have ancestoral connections to Indiana.

Hi This painting was painted by my great uncle Floyd. I used to lay on his studio floor while he painted. What a joy it was to find your site and see one of his paintings. I know this painting very well. I remember seeing it hanging in his home. He would give me a canvas and inspire me to paint. I became a portrait painter and was an instructor for 33 years. My name is Nancie Scott Davis. I have several paintings hanging in the Louve. I was a memeber of the Hoosier Art Salon and won various awards. I was raised in Fort Wayne in Ossian Indiana just outside of Fort Wayne where my Uncle Floyd lived. I live in Madison Indiana and would love haveing you visit my studio. My email is whitehorse1941@gmail.com or feel free to write me on facebook just look for Nancie Scott Davis. There are limited pieces on this page to view. You will also see many native american crafts as I am of native blood. Looking forward to hearing from you! Thank you, Nancie
