This vase attracted me because it's translucent glass shading from red at the rim to pale amber at the ribbed balls on leaf shaped feet. The spiralling frill adds an amber tinge to the red of the vase itself.

The vase is eight sided and each side has a line of small raised dots. Both the red and the two blue versions would have come from the same mould(s). Only the final hand worked stages would have been different. If you look closely you may be able to see the faint raised dots on the frilled rim of the blue ones.

The blue spatter version (image four) Also came from the same mould(s) but the addition of five thorny feet make it taller. In my next post the five thorny feet will appear again.

    Height 19 cm./7.5 inches

Great color transition in this one. Not a color for this vase I have seen before.... Nice one!!

In fact welzebub, I can only think of Peach and Green as another Welz colour transition décor. You may know more of course.....

The pink to green transition is the only other one I know of so far.

I prefer the amber one rather than the ones with blue-balls.

BB I have to agree the shape is a bit iffy at times, but they are pretty awesome nevertheless!
Peggy I have to wonder where you find your beauties; the red/amber is so different.

Karen, I mostly find them on ebay, a few in local charity shops, but this one from ebay France. The only way you can prove that Welz made colour transition glass is to find examples in distinctive Welz shapes. Nowadays I'm really only buying rarities in this early Welz as I'm plum out of shelf space.......

I was wondering that and unlike my glass I'm sure you don't pack your lovelies away in boxes.
I've been a bit of a kid in a lolly shop buying glass up to now but have started to be a bit more selective also. I think because I have such a range of good examples I now need to go for the very different. Is that similar for you?

I think we are likely both going through a stage common to all collectors. We want what is better than what we have already.....whether it be rarer, by a favourite producer or even a long admired décor.

Actually I do have larger Sklo Union and massive Chribska packed away. I'm coming to the idea that I must dispose of my least liked stuff if I'm to continue collecting. Hard but once you start it gets easier.

I think that you are right in that once you have a fair amount it becomes easier to be more discerning.

I should add here that your lovely blue ones are not an endangered species :)

Terrific examples of the tri-ball vases! I particularly like your deep red to Amber example. Welz was just so imaginative, and their creativity with color combinations seem to be just endless.

Thank you, Michelle, this is perhaps the only vase I would be drawn to in amber as amber is not a colour I like. Though it looks good with blue I think.
