I bought a bunch of old prints at Urban Ore yesterday. These were mostly not colored in, but the ones which are colored in have 2 monograms, while those which are not colored in have only one monogram. i think that the paintbrush monogram was used to note the person who colored them in. i didn't know about that.
does anyone recognize the fleur d'elyse monogram?
These are beautiful. What info is there in the corners, directly under the prints, in teeny tiny writing?
They are all by Giuseppe Zocchi (Italian, 1711–1767) and they are views of Florence
thank you mp.kunst! good info!
great question Efes! there is very tiny writing under both bottom corners and also under the seal/monogram, but i practically need a microscope to make it out.
