This vase is huge. It is 14" tall adn 7" across at its widest point. It weighs in at about 7 pounds! This guy is filthy like it had been buried in dirt. I will have to wash it up this weekend. This is going to look great on top of our kitchen cabinets.
There are no makings on it to give a clue as to its maker.
Is that dirt -- or the Finish on it to look like that? just wondering.....???
You know, it could be decoration. I am going to have to take a good look at it this weekend.
could the mold have been made of sand it was poured into to form vase ? It is very nice , looks neat just as is ; I wouldn't clean it too much .
So I had to go take a look at this more closely. The dirt is sand like that is very stuck in the crevices. The handles are applied so the fact that there is so much in the crevices near the handles would tell me that it was not part of the mold process but it could be decoration. There is also an uneven white coating on the outside. This thing is a mystery unless it was truly done like this to make it look old.
As far as i know the technique is called "a scavo"
Made by several venetian/murano glassmakers in the past
But by chinese gkassmakers as well....

Thanks for the tip! The quality of this piece does not scream Murano to me so I am thinking more Chinese.
