I was given this as a gift. The person who gave me this gift could only tell me that they bought it at an online estate sale. No markings indication an artist. All I know is it's spectacular and totally awesome and I want to learn as much as possible about it. My guess is a Hanuman Kris Holder Balinese.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping to find out when he was made. Whether it has any religious meaning. Is it some sort of guardian. Where it was possibly made. If he is depicting a god or a mythical creature I would like to know which one and what his role was.
Thanks.
Whats it made of ..and I would sneak into a church and fill a bottle of holly water and bring it home and bless the heck out of it... smiling........ nice gift
"Keris" holder, you mean. I think that is exactly what it is, judging from what I've seen online.

It's hand carved out of one single piece of wood. It was painted. I'm trying to find out what kind of wood. I'll try to see if I can take a detailed photo of the bottom. The reason I believe it may be a Keris holder is because his hand is carved in such a way as if it was holding something.
According to the National Gallery of Australia, this is called Sugriwa, King of the monkeys. The NGA has it on display not that long ago. Here is the link https://artsearch.nga.gov.au/detail.cfm?irn=252025
Yours is the best I can see online, congratulations!
