This is a garage sale find. I'm looking for information about this 2-8-0 steam locomotive. Can anyone help? All I know is ; It's all metal construction, including the gears. It's marked with Pennsylvania and the number 1260. There are no other markings or branding. I would like to get it into running shape but it's missing two wheels in the coal tender and one nut on the wheel. Any information will be helpful

It's Mantua aka Tyco I think.

I was taught how to read train wheels a while ago by an X - and sometimes I still test myself out. You might find this useful:

The other suggestion I have is to find your local model store that has a good selection of HO scale trains. We used to have a fairly large one close by, and the guys behind the counter are very knowledgeable.
There are also some contacts mentioned in the CW article I sent you.
My last two cents are Join a Club - members are a mine of information as well as a mine for 'bits & pieces'.
      All the best to you.

Gillian, thank you for the sound advice. I'll take you up on all of it. I'm taking it to a nearby train hobby store this week end and I have checked into the club idea, but the closest I could find was 30-40 miles away. (maybe I'll start my own).
In anycase, I appreciate the help.

That 2-8-0 is made by Penn-Line and later on by Bowser. Now no one makes it.
