I picked up this four legged piece few weeks ago in one charity shop. Only 4'' tall, that muck inside isn't dirt, but corrosion. It looks something was burned inside. Maybe it's an incense burner? I suppose it's pewter, however I'm not good at identifying metals. Can someone shed light on it - about the age, purpose, origin ? I appreciate your help.

It does look like pewter or some other tin based metal. Is there a stamp on the bottom?

It is charming, would look fantastic with roses in a glass in it!

Thank you Kyra... I was already thinking about it - to put some small flowers inside the pot :)

Could be a wedding or loving cup.. If it has tarnish, it is not pewter. Possibly silver. It is very pretty!

Thank you Mareredware, I will have it tested. I had a few months ago a small footed jug with an exactly same decoration. I already gave that one away. I found both of them in a charity shop, for a pound or two.

Looks like silver plate with considerable wear. Probably the sugar and part of a set originally.

It looks Turkish. Check for a 555 stamp... if you see one it is a grade of silver. http://etsy.me/29mp01g
