Hello everyone.
Absolutely adore this ring.
This Saphiret ring came up in a group of 4 rings 2 years ago. All of them were marked 9ct....2 rose gold and 2 yellow gold. The pictures were not very clear so I took a gamble and it paid off. The other 3 rings all fitted me as well and were really pretty which was a bonus in itself!!!
I am thinking Edwardian for this ring????
The stone which is open backed, is quite worn on the top and the band has had a repair to attach it back onto the ring.....but I think it is just beautiful!! It sits in my jewellery cabinet looking very ordinary and dull brown in that light, but boy does it do it's thing in the sunlight!!!
I guess I should add that this stone was made by adding gold to blue coloured glass.
Hope you love this as much as I do......thanks Judy
Nicefice and Caperkid.....thank you both for taking the time to look and love!
Hey, Tassie Lassie! It could very well be Edwardian. Not always easy to tell.
Jewelry with a history is much more interesting to me than something brand new from a shop. A bit worn, a little beat up....right up my street.
Ha ha.....thanks Bonnie....you do make me smile!! Yes, I agree......could never go back to wearing brand new jewellery now!!! Thanks for the love too!
Martika...thanks so much for looking and the love!
Another lesson from CW! I had to read up about saphiret - had not heard of it.
It's interesting Judy because in art glass I know of added gold to make ruby glass, or in lesser amounts cranberry glass. It must depend on when or how much is added for the blue hue to appear. Fascinating.
Your ring is magnificent!
Wow! Great and big saphiret!
Karen.....I have to read up all the time about posts on here as well! But that's what it's all about hey.......
I have read that too about adding the gold to make a colour for art glass.....interesting isn't it.
No wonder that practice had to stop when the gold was too expensive for jewellery!!
Later times saw Czech glass foiled to make imitation blue/brown colour saphirets....like those costume earrings I posted a little while ago.....
Thanks for your great comment and the love!!!
