Jones Grape Soda, Casper, WY. FULL and UNOPENED!
I found this bottle in my sister's basement in Gillette, WY. I have been unable to locate ANY historical information about this beverage company, although think it is from mid-1940's.
A cool relic from the past, especially since it is unopened. Anyone know any history of this beverage company?
What does the base have? A clear photo of all the base embossing could help.
Or, if it looks like <(I)>, what is the number to the right, and does it have a period after it if it is only a single-digit number? That could help date it.
Very cool! I've had this bottle for over 15 years and have never looked at the bottom.
3 lines:
G 47 3
g<(I)>49
I
I could be misinterpreting these numbers because of the textured glass. Interestingly, no one at the Casper Historical Society, or any local antiques collectors that I've contact via email knows anything about this beverage company.
It was made in 1949 by the Owen-Illinois Glass Company (but was likely bottled around 1950). Their typical mark in the '30s-'50s was <(I)> and a date-code usually to the right of that. Sometimes it was only a single number, with or without a period (the period tells the decade for single-number examples). They also used (I) and Duraglas as a mark, but not
<I>
To the left is likely a 9, which would be their plant number (I think 9 was one of their largest). They were a huge company with several locations.
As for Jones', I also turned up no information.
Thanks for the info on the bottle... But what does this mean that you were unable to turn up any info on Jones Beverages? No one has been able to provide any background info on this company. It's like the company never existed. Does this mean that this item (especially being full) is a one-of-a-kind? If that's the case, how would someone value or sell such an item?
That I found several other bottles by the company means that they weren't tiny, or at least had a small stock left over when they closed down. No info usually means that they didn't advertise well and weren't big enough to put into directories.
As for being full and capped, that's usually harder to find.
Value is whatever someone will pay. Being full doesn't increase value. The cap might by a few bucks. Another capped and full version did not sell for $2 in the past month on e-Bay.
