The Hot Wheels Mustang and Camaro started it all. Today the real ones still battle it out as rivals.

We fastened a Hot Wheels track to our water spicket and ran it down the lawn. They kicked but on comers, even the Johnny Lightnings... These were American Toys with spectra flame paint... Mag wheels and the dream of every kid with an eye on hot cars.

These look great! Do you have the complete Sweet 16?

You know... I really will pull them together and see. I know I have the AMX (2) Cherger in green and mint, Hot Heap in several colors, T-Bird (3) Vette(2) VW, The Fleetwood..? The truck version.... What else is in the sweet 16? I will look and see.

The AMX & Charger weren't part of the original "Sweet" 16 cars. These 16 are the Beatnik Bandit, Custom Barracuda, Custom Camaro, Custom Corvette, Custom Cougar, Custom Eldorado, Custom Firebird, Custom Fleetside, Custom Mustang, Custom T-Bird, Custom Volkswagen, Deora, Ford J-Car, Hot Heap, Python, and the Silhouette. Some of these 1968 castings are almost impossible to find in decent condition. Many of them were produced well into the '70s (with the date on the bottom still being 1967-68) but aren't actually "Sweet 16". One of the best ways to tell if it was made pre-'70 is the suspension used on the vehicles axle. Mattel stopped using the "torsion bar" bent-axle type of suspension in 1970.

I appreciate your helping me remember these cars (senior moment happening... & and I am only 50...) I do have all of these and I just bought a fair condition Python in pink. I am told that is the rarest color because boys would not choose that color. A great source of information is two books that are reprionts of Sears and Montgomery Ward catalogue. I cound the page and saw the offering of these in various groups. Thanks for the excellent information.
