Yes, Tatoo. Actually it's more of a Plane-Hatchet but axe sounds more impressive. It is 13" long o/a and the planeing blade is 1.25" wide. The blade retainer is held on with a Phillips head machine screw and it has two screws on its back edge to adjust the blade angle. One cheek is stamped "Plane-Axe / Reg. U. S. Pat. Off. / Drop Forged Pat. Pend." I don't know the patent number or date.

Must be on the rare side, no??? I've never seen a plane/hatchet-axe combo before. Just wondering now how practical the plane is??? Looks in GREAT condition. Very nice. [;>)

I saw a reference to one years ago in a book but I've never seen another one. I can't imagine the circumstances where this would be a useful combination.

Thanks, TallCakes!!!! I would have thought it was much older. Interesting that there is no patent.

What an interesting tool. I never saw one before. I read TallCakes' link, it's amazing how he can find articles on the things we find interesting, but, can't find reference to. Great post!

Close to it. Supposedly made very few if any. I found another mention of these tools, I'll add it next.

Great job, Gotwire! I like the first link the best. I'll trade even-up to anyone who has one of those. :-) I notice that after 20 days no one has jumped on the one on eBay at $250 so I guess I'm not going to retire on mine . . . oh, that's right. I'm already retired.

My Dad used to collect axes and hatchets. They are just too heavy to carry around to the shows. He would have loved to add this one to his collection. He stopped adding to this group and re kindled a much older axe collection, stone axes LOL
