Found on Craigslist San Diego, estate sale. Per serial number it appears to be an 1879 singer in a 7 drawer cabinet with some accessories. Now need to find someone to service and get parts(belt and needles), so my wife can use. Wife started to clean up with rubbing alcohol and I stopped her. Researching best way to clean up. Only know it was an elderly ladies before she passed and her older son only knew she had used it when he lived at home many years ago. Looking for help on identifying model, verifying year, and then finding someone for parts and repair.
Serial number 3204361, no model label.
1879 is the year. There is no information on the model # for the early Singers based on serial number.
I am thinking it is a Model 15.
Hi, I do a bit of work on the old sewing machines. Some things to mention, I would definitely discourage using alcohol to clean the machine, especially on the decals, as this may damage the finish, on both wood and paint. I find a damp, gentle, soft cloth works nicely. Also, with a little extra time, a sewing machine repair man is often unnecessary. With my sewing machine, I just use a few drops of sewing machine oil or household general purpose oil, every once in a while. These machine are relatively easy to oil, there are holes in the body where a few drops my be applied, and this should in most cases get her up and running smooth. Just make sure to oil all moving joints and parts, from top to bottom to prevent wear and improve function. Also, since this a treadle machine, I recon you will need a new belt. I have seen leather belts for sewing machines on ebay, but sometimes even a long piece of tightly-tied string around the pullies works nicely too. I have an 1875 Singer with a cotton string belt, and has plenty of power. These old 1800s machines are of in my opinion, the best quality, and really great to use! Be sure to enjoy!
This machine is a Singer 9W, they were made at the Singer Bridgeport factory which was the old Wheeler and Wilson factory, and the serial numbers can't be used to date these. Singer took over the W&W factory in 1905, and this machine dates to after 1905 until about 1912.
