Here's another vase - but much larger - that i found at Goodwill today. it's signed 'U.S.A.' on the base. i was thinking it might be a california piece, but who knows?

oops! this vase is 10" tall and 7.5" wide.

This is a California pottery vase, the question is which of the many mid century manufacturers, let me take a look and see, my guess is Bauer, but that's just a guess.
Yes almost certainly Bauer for a variety of reasons, design, shape, rendition, mark. Very pretty vase! :)
