This is a Bernard Instone very large and heavy brooch. The brooch is set with multicoloured stones, and typical Bernard Instone silver leave work. The large hexagon shape faceted citrine is in a silver bezel surround, it is the base of a plant pot. There are silver leaves in the middle of the brooch which then branch off into stems of different coloured stones which are I think synethic. There are varying sizes and shapes, oval, square, teardrop, round, all the stones are set in prong settings. The back is typical Instone, the one problem with the brooch is there is a tiny hole in the middle at the bottom of the silver leaves, I was wondering if anybody would have any idea of what might have been here. I have never seen anything quite like this of Bernard Instone. Before I forget at the bottom of the citrine hexagon is a silver stand.
Many thanks for looking.
Maybe there was a bug or a bee and it got lost?
GOD - he makes such beautiful stuff. You may never know, since mostly all of his pieces are one of a kind.
I hate Googling him-I get lost in all the Arts & Crafts beauty from him and his compatriots!
I only found one other on the web, but I have a feeling that this is the one you bought:

That could well be it Celiene, it would make sense. Thanks for your help. :-)
You have that right Efesgirl, this is the same brooch. :-)
A 'giardinetto', huh? Ok now I know what to look for!
OOh - they are so pretty!
This is so wonderful. An incredibly fun and different design in Instone's wonderful work with huge stones. So, so good Jean!! Congratulations!!
Hi Celiene, I think your right that the missing piece could be a insect of some kind, probably be a bee. I have looking up giardinetto brooch, there are some lovely ones out there. Thank you yet again for your contribution.
Thank you Karen, yes it certainly is a different piece from the other work I have of his, but that's why he is so fascinating, you never know what's going to come up next. :-)
I showed this brooch to my daughter, she wasn't impressed at all, she thought it was horrible, just goes to show that we all have different tastes. It certainly won't be passed on to her lol.
Many thanks
