Your middle photo also shows US Doughboys (Overseas)-- it is especially nice since it shows one wearing a leather jerkin!

thanks for the information scottvez! It is awesome to learn new info on things I've had for years. My dad and brother were both well informed on military matters. I would ask them questions. They are no longer with me and it is nice to have this forum.

Photo one is a nice turn-of-the-century picture of a young officer in the US Model 1895 jacket. In spite of the gauntlets, it appears the officer is wearing the crossed rifles of the infantry, and is leaning on a model 1860 staff and line officer’s sword, which would have still been in service at the time for dismounted officers.
What I like about photo three is the clear image of model 1910 canvas leggings. These tended to rot in the trenches of France and were quickly replaced in France by the wrap-around leggings, or putties, worn in photo two. I think your Frenchman is wearing cavalryman’s breeches instead of the less flared out dismounted soldier’s trousers also seen in photo two.
