Here is a huge ball shape marquetry piece featuring smoke glass and gold red flowers. I think it's 30'cm by 27'cm. My favorite thing about the piece is that when you look at one flower you can see the other two flowers in the same shot! I have a prejudice against pieces with a cut and ground rim even though I collect them. There is s mystery about production methods: why were certain pieces made with a cut and ground top, some pieces were made in the same shape with both styles of rim and a few pieces (like this one) were made only with a pontil on the bottom. Don't be fooled by the similarities you find in ball shape vases from Kralik; these are not the same type of vases- For one thing they are never perfect in shape (no mold was used). The second thing is the rim is hand tooled not spun in a form. Lastly all the glass is much thicker than most Kraliks. I hope you enjoy this piece as much as I do.
P.s the price was right- was sold as 60's glass
Wow - very special indeed!!
