I have never seen a "plug" where the dial should go on my Kellogg Candlestick Phone.

Is something else supposed to be affixed to the "plug" such as the phone number?

What is your take on this?

See a few on ebay with same plug and no dial.

It is not uncommon. In the long ago there were no dials. I am thinking this is from when dials were first introduced and were not universal. I have a no dial phone that could have been a dial phone myself.
With luck a real expert such as ttomtucker will arrive soon.

I just found a Western Electric Candlestick on eBay with the same dial "plug." Guess Kellogg didn't have the sole ownership of this thing. Notice, no phone number on it either.

Could this have been used in a hotel, or something like that, where the switchboard operator would connect you. I don't think the one the Waltons used had a dial.
