These sets were made by Du Pont starting in 1917. They were not made out of ivory but it was a Bakelite type of plastic with an ivory color.
Not sure of the what use of all the pieces are but there is a trinket box and the hook was for tying tall lace up shoes.
On the underside of some of the larger pieces have "Ivory Pyralin" and "Du Barry" stamped on them.
Despite the age these can be had for affordable prices.
Wow....how great to have so many original pieces!! Really lovely.... the piece on the left with the hole in the centre looks like a hair receiver.... for keeping hair from the brush so that it can be used to make "rats".....long rolls that were used in 1940s hair styles....
Great set Fort.
Judy I didn't know "rats" were made from own hair!
Yes Karen....and I should have put double T in Ratts and this started in Victorian times apparently........I tried to make one once when I had long hair by stuffing a piece of stocking LOL
This is a great set! I see similar sets but they're most often missing many of the pieces. I love to see the complete sets like this and in such nice condition.
Love this! I have the hook and hair receiver. Until just now I thought the container with the hole was for powder. Thanks TassieDevil!,
Thank you very much TassieDevil. Thanks for the info on the hair receiver.
Thank you very much racer4four.
Thank you very much Scott. Went to find more pieces today but didn't find any.
Thank you very much mareredware. I thought it was for cotton balls or tissue.
