Does anyone know anything about this desk? I just got it from my Mom's basement and I don't know what it is called or what kind of wood it is made from. It is 52" wide x 25" deep. The center part is slanted with a leather covered lid that opens to a 22" wide storage area. There are two drawers. The wood is painted but I stripped one of the drawer fronts and the wood is a deep brown color and is a soft wood. The sides of the drawer are I believe poplar (green color).
Nice little desk, possibly from an old hotel.
I have one somewhat like this in pine without the inset piece on the center lid. It is a schoolmarm's desk, c. 1865-1890.
