This snuff bottle inspired me to look up animal symbolism - a cat and butterfly would mean a wish for long live up to old age. But because it's a dog and butterfly, I can only guess.
Butterfly (?? - húdié) - long life, beauty and elegance
Dog (? - g?u) - auspicious animal, upcoming fortune, understanding human spirit, obeying the superior
Panda (?? - xióngm?o) - symbol of Man
