Made in 1871 by American Watch Company is an 18-size Waltham model 1870, Crescent Street. It was the first American watch designed and marketed especially as a railroad watch. The movement has 15 ruby jewels, a chronometer balance, is adjusted to 5 positions temperature and isochronism, key wind and key set from the back, also one of the the earliest to include a micrometer regulator. Waltham used the name Crescent Street as a grade name on several different models. It was first used on the Model 1870 and that movement has the distinction of being the first advertised as a “Railroad” Watch.

Fleur de lis style hands and the original 4oz. warranted coin silver hunter case. These watches in their original cases are more scarce since by 1893 the General Railroad Timepiece Standards Commission presented new guidelines, which one of the requirements were railroad watches must be open face, many were re-cased to follow these guidelines. This watch keeps excellent time for 145 years old!
