I was told that these insulators may have come from a submarine. Can anybody tell me what they was used for. They are either ceramic or porcelain. They are about 24" tall. The file shows two different insulators.

They look a bit too "artsy" to be insulators, especially from a submarine. Why do you think they are insulators? If you look up inside the bases (or on the bottoms of the "feet" if they are glazed inside), what color is the material they are made from?

My father was in the Navy during Vietnam and I discussed this with him. They were not used on aircraft carriers but were used on submarines and were probably used to route the wiring for the electric drive motors.

      Embossing/markings.
I have seen these with the U.S. and anchor in between marking on the base of them which is the insignia for the U.S. Navy.

They make beautiful art pieces. I'd sit one in my living room.

They ARE very unique and some call them "Christmas tree" insulators. However, they are insulators and were used in the Navy in subs. Despite that, being their unique design, unless they were encaged with a steel cage, I wonder how many of these were broken in use simply because they are delicately designed?
