    katherines…
    (247 items)

So this brooch is in the form of a heart with a bow at the top and floral decor around an open window area which may have held glass, a little tab at the top on the back which seems to be there to hold in whatever would have been placed inside the brooch, perhaps a picture or memento of some other sort. Perhaps this was some sort of memorial or mourning brooch? Foldover C clasp with short pin. There is a stamped image just above the tip in that tiny cartouche, that's the thing in pic #4, it looks like a blob, looking closer looks like an S, but if you look very carefully, the mark appears to be a lion or leopard face with paws crossed, claws on the paws. It's so tiny even with a loupe the mark isn't clear. There are no other marks. Any ideas, thoughts, theories related to this brooch welcome. Thanks for looking. :)

      Looks old to me!!

Do you think it held something at one time in the front? Mourning Jewelry ?? or something like that

Thanks for the love, brunswick, vetraio50, antiquerose, TassieDevil, aura, mikelv85, and racer4four. :)

Rose, that's what I suspect, that this is some form of mourning or memorial brooch, I just couldn't find another like it. It may have been meant to hold hair, or a photo, or some other form of memento.

Karen, thanks, yeah, the clasp seems to suggest early 1900s, but that's a guess. If I could figure out the mark maybe I'd get further ahead. :/

Give us some more pics ( 4 more images of the mark ) in another post -- in different lighting. Try the sun on it -- and see if we can make anything out

So start a part II of this topic with 4 images of the mark -- something gotta peek out maybe...

Thanks, Rose, I will try that. I measured the mark, it's 1/8" -- teeny tiny!!

It's very cool looking. Where did you get it? I'm blind in one eye and can't see out of the other so I can't buy jewelry. I like it a lot. :)

Thanks for the love, SEAN68, and OneGoodFind. :)

OGF, in a thrift store grab bag, along with some other pieces. I haven't been able to track another down that looks like it, the closest I came was an Art Nouveau brooch, will have to do more research on it. :)

I'm seeing a bust profile (looking right) of a bearded man wearing a crown instead of a leopard.

Thanks, davyd, I'll take another look and update as to what I see. Have been meaning to take more pics but have had not a moment's time. :/

No one mentioned...but I can see in pic one when I zoomed it, angel holding a child and another figure. Anyone else see that?
    12. katherinescollections katherinescollections, 4 years ago
I can't see it, perhaps an optical illusion? I've given up trying to figure this brooch out, lol.
    13. mrcolorz mrcolorz, 4 years ago
Well I can for sure try zoom in there's definitely faces there
    14. mrcolorz mrcolorz, 4 years ago
Do you mind if I post a pic of what I see?
    15. katherinescollections katherinescollections, 4 years ago
I don't mind at all. Have at it!

I had actually come to the conclusion that the brooch was of no value, a costume piece made to look antique. Am I wrong?

I posted a close up of it we will see if someone else could see it also...I definitely think it held a pic, not sure of value or age, or hallmark ...I just couldn't understand why the image jumped out at me.
