I have this old dog (borzoi?) lamp that came out of my Grandparents' home. It is made of plaster and has it's original gold "brain" shade. There is an original label on the back of the lamp which says - "Portable Electric Lamp" - the rest is kind of hard to read - might say "Approved Can. Engineering Standard & Assoc.". The lamp is approximately 11.5-12 inches long and approximately 10 inches tall.
Unfortunately it has had some restoration to it - it actually got broke in half (between the dog & lamp part). As I always loved this lamp I couldn't just throw it out. I glued it back together and filled in any "gaps" in the plaster which of course, meant I had to paint it. It was originally a deeper darker flat brown "bronze" colour I guess. The lamp part also had to have an update - the socket was originally cemented into the plaster with the wire running out the back. I had to drill the old wiring out and create a hole to run new wiring. The shade sits on a ridge of plaster inside the "cup". It isn't really used much as the bulb does heat up the shade quite a bit.... may have to find a way to ventilate it better. This "restoration" took place maybe 20 or 30 years ago BTW. :)
Just like to get an idea of when this lamp may have been made... I am guessing might have been 1920's or so? Art Deco? And if it might actually have any value despite the "restoration" that has been done to it. THANKS for any information.
