Perhaps someone on here can solve a bit of an old mystery. When my brother was 12 years old he went on a whale watching trip in maryland and ended up buying this for me. He told me it was on on a table with a bunch of other statues that were around 20 dollars when he brought it up the woman balked and informed him it was fifty. My brother being young and inexperienced at the time (he's 34 now) ended up paying the amount. Poor little guy spent all his money on me...bless him. Anywho, bring us to the present. He is, indeed, one of my favorite statues...but I know nothing about him! I do know he's a happy buddha...but what's the deal with the dish? Why are there two different stamps? Why was he painted...and, of course, around what time was he made? I've taken him to some local antique places but none of them have much knowledge when it comes to asian antiques. Any insight at all about this little guy would make me a very, very happy person and help a family mystery that's been around for many, many years. Thank you!
