So this little Kokeshi doll interested me because it has a street scene on the body, and some writing which of course I can not read, lol. I was helped on the Kokeshi FB page, the writing says Memory of Ikaho Hot Springs. 5 1/2" tall, base (sorry, I forgot to take a pic, will do later and post) is plain with no wear or markings. It's my first Kokeshi! I'd seen them before but was not interested until Karen posted her pearl Kokeshi, now my eyeballs are peeled for them. I hope you enjoy seeing her, and thanks for looking.
She is gorgeous, and rather demure.
Thanks for the love, Efesgirl, brunswick, aura, mikelv85. :)
Thanks, sklo, I don't know anything about kokeshi, but the hand-painting on her seemed very well done. I love the look of the city through the trees. :)
Sklo nailed it, and you don't see a lot of demure these days.
Thanks for the love, fortapache. :)
Hello, wexval, and thanks for chiming in. I take it demure is a good feature for these dolls to have, then. When I was looking at the contemporary kokeshi dolls, I was struck by how different they were from the traditional dolls.
Adorable!!!

Thanks, martika, she is kind of adorable, isn't she? :)
Thanks, Rose, for that lovely alliterating compliment! :)
Thanks, kyratango, the sad little eyes got me too! :))
She is adorable!
She is a beautiful traditional kokeshi! I know next to zero about them so hopefully SoulPortal will spot this and help.

Thanks, OGF, I'm glad you think she's adorable, so do I. :)
Thanks, Karen, I didn't really research anything on Kokeshi, so those links will def help. I'm glad you liked her, I naturally thought of you when I bought her. :)
Okay, the Kokeshi group on FB helped tremendously with info on this doll, this doll appears to be a souvenir from a Hot Springs place in Gunma Prefecture called Ikaho (Ikaho no). One of the group members says she has visited this place and the scene in the painting is of that place. What she couldn't tell me was if this doll is contemporary or not. From what I've read of souvenir dolls like this is they were made prior to the war, 30s - 40s. But this doll looks too new, and the paint color strikes me as from 70s era.
