Franz Hofstötter (1871-1958) original oil painting, "The Holy Family", 1957

Another late period original oil by Franz Hofstötter became available recently. This one was painted a year before his death, in 1957. It seems to be more representative of his earlier work, as it has a religious theme (The Holy Family). He also did something that he did earlier in his career - painted himself into the picture. The last photo above was found on the internet and is referred to as "self portrait as Adam". In this painting he appears again as Joseph. The photo of Hofstötter (third photo above) was taken shortly before he died, probably close to the time this painting was finished.
