This painting is in Dresden Germany from the right side of the Elbe River. I was watching Raiders of the Lost Art last night when I saw a painting from Johan Christian Claussen Dahl. I was like hold up, I have seen this before. So I paused and got my picture out, I keep it boxed up. No I do not think he painted it. After some research I know that where this is from. I thought perhaps the black things in front were gargoyles, however the Lipsius Building has Golden angels on terraces, one hunched one tall. I also found out that Dresdan was fire bombed in WW2, which could explain the fiery feel of it. It would also put the date to this painting at that time as well. The canvas has been stapled with what appear to be copper staples, and are wider than normal staples. I don't think this was the original frame at all, but I could be wrong. The way this was painted draws you in to its tiny size, the way the oil paint was manipulated. I still need some advice, or info. Should I get it appraised? It's hard to find someone in my area. If you know someone that would be awesome, or have any info. It's really a remarkable painting. I've never seen one like it, I'm no expert either, however this is different, it just has a different look and feel to it. Any advice or help will be greatly appreciated!

Yes, Dresden was fire bombed for no real reason since it wasn't a military target & is controversial among historians even today. Over 20 thousand civilians were murdered by burning to death on orders from the English, for no reason they have been able to justify. This was also in the last few months of the war. This painting has a haunted tint to me. Read Kurt Vonnegut's, Slaughterhouse - 5.
