This doll has no markings, the hair is falling out fast. It is extremely likely that her face, feet and hands are made of gofun, which is made from ground shells and has a surface rather like porcelain, roughly date from 1950s to 60s.

Forgot to say that the 'string' you mention should be around her waist on top of her obi (waist sash), and tied in a type of knot in the front, with the ends pulled to each side then tucked behind the cord. It is called an obijime (an obi cord). She would also have had a soft, silk band, like a little silk scarf (an obiage), tied around the top of the obi too and slightly tucked in behind it.
She would have been a child's plaything or and may have had a wooden stand to display her standing upright.
If you search for woman in kimono, you will see what I mean about those two ties.
CORRECTION - I have just realised what she is, not an ichimatsu doll, though still Japanese, and possibly still with gofun face hands and feet. I have just noticed her height and the shortness of her hair, so I believe she will have originally come with a selection of wigs, usually 3, 4 or 6, for various occasions, which is why her hair is so short; to fit easily beneath a wig. Those dolls were made in Japan for the tourist trade. I would roughly date it from 1950s to 60s
