My father in law recently moved in with us and he gave me a HUGE of Native American Jewelry. He said that everything dated between 1960's and 1970's. He handed me this particular belt buckle and said have you ever seen anything like this!
The belt buckle is 7 3/4" long and 5" wide. The back is marked sterling, but there is no artist signature.
Can anyone add to information about this piece?
Nice. Navajo, that's all I can say.
The feather motif is a fairly common design, and there are many variations this style of buckle. It's not possible to attribute it to any specific Native American silversmith.
First.... WOW! What a beautiful buckle.
So, over the years I've had to research 100's of Native American marks / pieces and the one things I've found is the stamp / mark isn't always as clear or obvious as the .925 or sterling mark. Often times the only way to find anything is to use my loupe, or grab a pencil and paper and do a transfer rub.
I hope you are able to find out! : )
