Finally, something oriental that isn't made from molded resin!! I looked at a number of these carved Immortals online and they all are somewhat different. Mine is 10"high and carved from a hardwood. No clue of it's age. There are no carved initials anywhere and the bottom is plain, unstained wood.
I altered the title so I hope it's correct now.
Thanks for looking/loving, friends!

I love this!! That was an incredible deal for a wood carving such as this. It's pretty awesome looking!
Thanks, scott! I have very little in the way of Oriental things. When I saw this, I thought it was resin until I picked it up. A nice surprise.
Hey I have one that isn't resin, too, so there, nyah. Mine's plastic, LOL! :P
This is really nice, Beebs, good eye as always. :)
can you see the grain anywhere? i can't see any from your pics. the quality of these pieces is really determined by what kind of wood was used.
Hi Ho2, most of these figures only show very light grain under high intensity light and good magnification. It's next to impossible to pick up with a camera. Most of them seem to have been dyed, probably by soaking, and there is no hint of lac or varnish. The polish comes after they dry. The density of the wood varies from light to quite dense and the colors range from light tan through reddish and into chocolate. This one is not an Immortal, but one of the Three Star Gods, representing Canopus and longevity as noted in the title. He is holding the Peach of Immortality and just below that is inscribed the symbol for his name, Shou.
Hiya wexval, I was hoping you would show up! Thank you so much for all the good info. My knowledge of all things oriental would fit on the head of a pin. :-))))
katherine...plastic...sheesh.....hahaha!
I too love this Kyra... Beautifully carved, wonderful condition, and for only three bucks? As my buddy Rosie likes to say Wowser!
Very nice!
