AmatoorPikr just post an active Hummingbird nest few hours ago, as a collector, i use to collected bird nest, i still have a few.
After seeing the post, i think this could interesting to have a closer look at the Hummingbird nest.
First of all, hummingbird use to nest on very hight branch of leafy tree, mostly the nest is composed of moss(inside cushion), lichen(around the nest rim) and most important material Spider web(hold everything together). The unique properties of the spider wep allow the nest to expand as the young hummingbirds grow.
The Hummingbird egg are big like a pea, usual smothered of 2 chick.
Incubation last 15 day's
338 species of Hummingbird exist today.
The nest is 1.50 inch diameter by 1 inch high(collected from poplar at 35 feet above the ground).
Thanks for Viewing.
