My sister found this chair at a garage sale. She sent me the photo to see if I wanted it. I thought it was very cool so of course I said yes! I have no back further information re background or anything. The seat was not very firm & it was scratched up somewhat. When I removed the upholstery on the seat, I found it had springs that were attached to canvas straps across the bottom. Just wondering about the era, style or any information someone might have on it or chairs such as this.

I'm not good at styles, etc. of furniture. I just buy something if I like it. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Its an Empire period style, American, looks late 19th or early 20th century.

Is the chair painted or is that just the wood color?

I don't see much age in the wood (if not painted) and the carving/ pressing in the back doesn't show much detail.

A photo of the bottom may be helpful, but from what I see now; I'd put this in the mid 20th century.

The chair is painted. I sanded & painted because it was pretty scratched up. Everything else is original except inside the seat where I added foam. Or at least original from when I bought it.
