Hi guys just picked these up and was hoping to find out more information on them. I'm trying to find out if the Harper pinback is Political Or Fraternal. The bear is my favorite it does has some Foxing but it's Nach Los Angeles from 1908 maybe Jewish or German Related festival. The largest also has foxing but it's old from the Los Angeles Railway Association. I wanted to share and see if anyone else had comments or information related.
Nice find, Wish I could help however I couldn't find anything on the Harper button my guess would be political. I looked for Harper for Senator, Congress, Governor, ... and found zip, not even listed on Hake's
I like the bear pin too, Nach is German for "after", I thought it could be Teddy Roosevelt related but didn't find a link there and I'm guessing your right on with German festival related.
Keep up the hunt it seems you find a lot of odd but cool stuff.
Peace, John
Thanks PP I like the Standing Bear I to have tried to find anything in this Harper fellow from the look of the pin it's early 20th century. I love to hunt and find the odds and obscure those are things I prefer. But I love the older pinbacks
The Harper pin 1904 & 1916 Teddy Roosevelt & Uncle Sam and Homer Davenport's cartoon "He's Good Enough For Me". So it is probably around that time. (Probably 1904, since Uncle Sam was behind TR that year...)
And it is a political pin - see the elongated flags that look like columns flanking him?

Also known as Arthur C. and A.C. Harper.
Los Angeles Mayor Arthur Cyprian Harper who inherited Harper Ranch (known as Cioela Vista to the family) which stood along the future route of the Sunset Strip. He served as mayor from 1906 to 1909, when he resigned rather than face a recall over corruption charges, including allegations he speculated on sugar and the fact that he spent too much time in brothels. He was born in Mississippi in 1867 and moved to Los Angeles as a child. A.C. Harper died on Christmas Day 1948.
Oh my! His son is a cross-dressing scandal and the "purity police"??

Wow thanks guys Celiene you're awesome
Wow he owned the Sunset Strip!! Hope his family kept it and cashed in when they built it:)
This was my great, great uncle AC Harper. Interesting article on his son that I was unaware of from the family files. Yes, they did own that part of Sunset Blvd, but sold it many years ago.
Would love more information on the AC Harper political button and where you found it.
