19th century? Chinese vase. Very old...Old yellow label on bottom states "Owned by Henry Harper mid 1800s.Beneath the label is a Chinese mark(picture 4) It has an old glaze with some brown staining? It stands about 8 inches tall. Look forward to opinions and comments. Thanks
I think it sure looks good for that time period. I think there were many many of these types of jars made for a long period. Qing era ?
that doesnt look like a Chinese marking?
it's a ginger jar. nice one too!
Thanks everybody. I welcome more comments and opinions.
Old, yes, very! RER
These pots were made from the late Ming Dynasty to the Republic, early 20th Century and were widely exported as they contained foodstuffs. The style is virtually unchanged through the ages. Although usually called ginger jars they more often held preserves like Chinese salted vegetables but ginger too. Yours has age but difficult to place, probably somewhere in the Qing Dynasty during the 19th Century. The mark on the base is not a character, maybe a symbol or maker's logo.
