I was thrilled to come across this Baccarat vase last week; it is molded opaline glass in a very pretty light jade color, with a motif of polychrome Morning Glories. It is in very good condition for its age (c. 1890) - the enamel is fresh and vibrant, with only some wear to the gilt. It has Baccarat's typical large finely ground pontil on the base, and is 10" tall. (My five year old daughter loves deep blue Morning Glories, as do I!)

You are an education, Michelle. Clearly Baccarat is far more interesting than I ever knew. Gorgeous!

Peggy, you are very kind to say that; thank you! I love to share what I have learned with others. You know, until about a year ago, I had no idea that Baccarat did anything other than the cut crystal that everyone typically associates with Baccarat (and which is not really my thing!)

I found it fascinating to discover the other work they did in the 19th century. I think it is really quite little known to most glass collectors. I now have a huge file of beautiful enamel decors and accompanying opaline vase shapes that they used, and have more recently been looking at their molded opaline vases, as well. It has been a lot of fun, and has also created some more glass-lust (unfortunately!) :)

Michelle, we spent a week in Baccarat in the eighties. There were two large shops with vast arrays of crystal.....red, blue, green etc. cut to clear but garish en masse. At least I wasn't alone :)

Great post Michelle. Like Peggy I would never have guessed this to be Baccarat.
I'll admit, French glass is low on my radar so I'm probably no measure, but I though they only ever did crystal, cut or moulded. My brain is changed!!

very beautiful and also you can extract the color of the morning glories with ethanol, then you can poor some vinager till it turns..... red. I have done this several times with my sons and they loved the experiment....Morning glories have different colors due to the acidity of the soil where they are....

Hi Karen, I am so glad! Isn't it fun to learn something completely new about something rather familiar? I love that...

kivatinitz, that sounds like a great experiment to try! Thank you!

Peggy, I don't think I'd have liked those shops, either. If I do go to Baccarat next summer, I'll be looking for other examples of their work! :)

Hi....I just recently found one!! and it's gorgeous...but it's like to much of my other pieces, it needs to find a new home as I'm downsizing which isn't an easy task!! I thought I'd be able to post a picture of mine but don't guess I can...if anyone would like to see, I'd be happy to send a picture privately...

Hi Bob, I know you from facebook! I believe I helped identify your beautiful vase. I know downsizing can be tough; have you considered selling if on Ebay, or through an auction house? That way you may get a good price from multiple bidders. Good luck! :)

Yes, Michelleboo7, it was YOU who ided my vase and I'm so happy you did!! I don't sell on Ebay....used to but quit when they basically forced sellers to do Paypal and I'm just too old for Ebay to dictate to me how a customer pays...lol....Thanks again for iding my beautiful vase.....and your vase is gorgeous too!!!
