I am assuming that the blue beads are turquoise and the red ones are coral. I know this much, they're Not plastic.
That's all I know about it except that I bought it at a yard sale in Shelton, Wa. along with 3 interesting baskets that I also have listed individually.
The seller had no clue where it came from but there are many different tribes in the Northwest.
It measures 4 12 in. top to bottom and 4 1/2 in. wide and near an inch thick. The bottom looks like hammered brass.
Any help on this will be most appreciated. Have a look at my other stuff listed as you may know something about them for me as well. Thanks so much.
This is from Nepal. Here's the plain version, without the Buddah: http://tinyurl.com/h5pnytf
And a box with the Buddah figure: http://tinyurl.com/jop3ujr
According to most of the examples, the blue and coral could be glass. Not plastic, but not real turquoise and coral.
Gently clean it with a toothbrush - it will sparkle. Nice little box.
I wouldn't call it a buddha. If you look closely it has an Indian chief headdress on and the loin cloth is the type Indians also used. But the Nepal thing seems correct. Thanks. Can you tell me how to reply to the people when they comment. I don't see any reply links. My email is ddrdon1955@yahoo.com
I would like to know a dollar value of this piece if anyone has an idea? I know the old saying that -- It's only worth what you get for it), but there must be an average number.
Oh Yeah, thanks for your help CanyonRoad and Celiene.
Hi rucklezglass and though now I am confused even more with two people with the same box design and two different listing names for it not to mention countries. Tibet and Nepal. I did take a red hot needle and stuck it in the hidden side of several colored beads but it does not penetrate so the beads are Not plastic.
I had marked the mystery solved and now unmarked it but I like that 100 year old stuff best if that is any consolation. Lol I will delete one of the listed photos and put a close up of the beads to help you folks out.
Don't put yourself out rucklezglass. I am good with how it is progressing for now. It's still early. Besides, with the close up photos of the beads it may help others out in there thoughts on it. Thanks for the offer though.
Hi,
With close scrutiny under an eye piece this is what I see,
The different colored coral around the outside rim mostly has pitting. But the red round beads plus the blue ones look like glass. Yet the red belly and the face are dominate in pitting. Could it be mixed glass and coral? Yet again, the long red beads circling the body have vertical lines running through them as if they were grew on a long stem and then cut to size or rather more like snapped off to size.
They are solid at both ends with no hole running through the middle like a plant stem or piece of hay. I never looked at real coral up close. Just trying to give you an image to work with. My camera won't get any closer and still be in focus.
I have a brooch with a very similar figure and stones. Some of mine is glass ( the face, body and arms of the figure are green glass on mine), some is real roughly shaped turquoise stones, with one perfectly spherical turquoise glass bead. I'm not sure if the coral colour is glass or real coral on mine. The back has "NEPAL" etched into it. I've found quite a few similar brooches and a couple of necklaces on various online auction sites, but never seen a box before.
I've posted my brooch here to let you see:

I sold this and the baskets all in one lump to a guy who sells the refurbished claw foot bathtubs in Centralia wa.
I actually lost 10.00 on the baskets and little box but he bought the old barbers pedestal sink I had too so I made 20.00 at the end of the day. I could have bided my time and made some good money but I am moving and just didn't have the room to haul these wonder items with me. Thanks for all you kind folks input on my stuff.
