The solid brass pieces come in a miter joint oak box with brass hinge and latch. There is a tray that lifts out and fits in lid. The King is about 8cm high and bottom green felt on all pieces and box have an oval red and gold sticker says made in Italy. Set is very heavy weighs 4.5 kg. One side is plated in silver. All pieces apart from knight are one piece, the knight is 3 piece. every piece weighs different amounts even the pawns -which makes me think it was hand made. The kings cross is smooth on one side and has machine lines on the other, the rings have turning marks on underside and smooth on top. The knight is quite unique traditional shape with the pointy chest but with a detail hair line on one side and smooth on other, cant find any like it. I got it off a old lady who said it was her brother terry's r.i.p and he played professionally. We promised to take good care of it and use it regularly, so i have taken to a restorer to get shined and silver side replated in 0.6 micron silver (they use 0.3 for cutlery) he commented on how well made it was and suggested 1950-1970 as a age guide. I am very curious as to maker and also age... i think the red and gold made in italy sticker, horse design and the way box is made and latch design are the best clues. Any help much appreciated
thanks for looking (up dated see my other listing now restored)
