I won this doll at auction. The seller said she believes he's German-made. I did a bit of research and found dolls that are a bit similar by Andreas Voit. This doll is approximately 19" in length with glass eyes, a cloth body and leather arms. Anyone have anymore information on this doll? Much appreciated!

Your glass-eyed mid-19th century man is a delight. I agree with the seller that he's more than likely German, maybe American but I lean towards the former. I think Johann Andreas Voit dolls are French. There's no markings on the shoulder plate? He's a nice doll in original condition, there doesn't appear to be any repaint which instantly devalues a doll, and, from what I can see, an old body? He's definitely a doll I'd take home.

Hi chinaheads. Thank you so much for your input and kind compliments. Much appreciated. I love that he appears to be in original condition. The body does appear to be old/original.

I agree German but it is nearly impossible to be sure of maker without a stamp or mark by company as several were making these dolls . Lovely piece of history in doll making history .

A veteran collector said she believes this doll to be a Johann Andreas Voit. Voits weren't marked so there is no certainty unless one has provenance, but I love him anyway.
