Most lamps I have looked up have Anchor on the label/plate. This has Starboard. The knob on the lamp says Sherwoods LTD England Duham

Sherwoods made oil lamps, lanterns, and burners. The company was in business in Birmingham, England, by 1904. It was bought by Linley & Co., and the newly merged business was incorporated as Sherwood-Linley in 1919.

Thanks. Does this one look like the real thing??

Bmgilde, my opinion is fake. The "STARBOARD" in a banner says something to me. I haven't seen loads of these, but the "banner" style raises my doubt. The real ones I've seen are all straight letters. In other words, for real use, why would the lettering be made from a sales angle. Real or not, this appears well made & a good "hanger".
      Just MY opinion !

Probably right. Although the banner style matches the "Anchor" items, which was probably intentional.

Something we just have to live with now days. There are so many fakes of anything of value, that the values of the authentic has dropped because of skepticism & fear of trusting anybody. I've been thinking about buying repros. for display, because originals are becoming worthless. Sad state of affairs, but true.

Just trying to be honest & straight forward. It's a serious collectors dilemma today !
