Out of all the Cutlery I found...This one particular fork has a makers mark that is proving impossible to find...
LINCOLN SUPER A.1. 12 DWTS is engraved on the back & other than the embossed pattern along the front edge...their are no other marks...
I'm wondering if anyone would know the origin of this Makers Mark & also what the numbers mean?
Cheers...thanks for looking :-)
Hi Amiar......found this about the DWTS.......same principle for your 12 DWTS....
18DWTS means that 18 pennyweights (about 29 grams) of pure silver has been used in plating a dozen pieces. So your spoon originally had about 2.4 grams of silver on it. Some of this will have been lost through polishing and general wear and use so intrinsic value is practically zero.
Cheers TassieDevil....that's interesting & you explained it very well...I couldn't understand other explanations though they practically said basically that...The Makers Mark...Lincoln....is another interesting point I'm interested in knowing more about too....love the history behind things...
Cheers TassieDevil
Thanks Amiar.......the only thing I could find for Lincoln had the mark EPNS and not SUPER......so don't know if they are the same maker????
Me too TassieDevil....That's what I Found also....thanks for your research
