Pair of 8" vases with an exuberant enamel "False Aralia" (my name for it) decor. Both vases are marked with the same acid stamp showing what I assume is a Germanic spelling of Czechoslovakia.
This brings something to my mind. I have been accumulating this wonderful glass for a while now but I am very much a novice when it comes my knowledge about it. I am wondering something very basic. It is one thing to read or write the names but to be able to talk to others without sounding like an idiot, I would like to know about pronunciation.
Is it KRAY-lik or KRAH-lik?
Is it Welz or Velz?
Ruckl, Rickl, or Reekl?
Or something else entirely?
The pronunciation of these names is interesting: Welz should be "Veltz" but I always think and say "w", Rückl is something like "Rookel" and Kralik is "Krahlik", as far as I know.
Dlfd911 and Moonstonelover posted similar with the same mark, but I can't help more than that.
Thanks Ian - I should have added "rookel" to the list.
I've seen a few other pieces with this decor. "False Aralia" - most people I know see this and think cannabis. They're an arty crowd.
