From hand to hand it measures 5 inches and top of handle to bottom 5 inches. Opposite the handle end it has adjustable slide with graduating marks on side. Seen three of these before do not know what they are or used for . Any help?

Perhaps a house siding gauge, for installation spacing .
That was my thought , slapjack. The handle looks like it might screw all the way through and form a clamp. One man (or woman) could clamp it onto a clapboard that was nailed up, lay the end of the next one on top and go to the other end of the new board to level it and start nailing. Saves the price of a helper. :-)
