Inherited from my grands recently. Absolutely love it. Deep cuts, heavy but I can't find any markings. Hopefully someone can help me identify it. I was told it was a Sinclaire and that it appeared in an inventory catalogue or some type of book.
What you have here is the best piece of American Brilliant Cut Glass on this page....maybe! First things first however. The pattern is called Triple Miter Trellis and would have been cut most likely by Hawkes or Egginton. Libbey and others cut similar patterns but the "U" shape cutting on the rim suggests Hawkes or Egginton. The most important thing to do is to put this piece under a good black light in a dark room to see if it will glow a greenish color. If so, you have an original, old piece of glass. This was a pattern that was reproduced almost 50 years ago, and the market was flooded with fake cut glass cut in rare patterns. In the American Brilliant Cut Glass world, collectors buy up this pattern like hot cakes as it so beautiful, thick and rare...if real like I said. Also, a photo looking down into the bowl would aid in identification. Great, wonderful piece! M.
