my latest find is a magnificent George 111 circa 1780 hollow stem excise tax lead glass measuring 120mm.
The glass tax was introduced in 1746 during the reign of King George II and was widely ridiculed at the time as it stated that glass was to be taxed on weight. To counter this, the glass houses produced lighter glasses by removing the folded foot and introducing ‘hollow stems’ and this is a classic example with a wide base, petal cut bowl and sliced stem.
Very nice, Can you please post more glassware ? I love tumblers and decanters as well.
