I found these two in a Goodwill yesterday. As soon as I picked up the picture of the man the glass slide out and nearly cut off my toe. He got a bit damaged in the process. She is still behind glass. I don't know whether these are photos or what. The only bright side to damaging the man's portrait is that I can see that it is a very thin paper mounted on what appears to be linen.
Her portrait is really remarkable. Unfortunately I was not able to get a great shot since it is still behind glass. She has a really eerie quality. Even though the portrait is in focus it has a hazy quality to it. Both suffered some water damage and were framed and matted. I would love it if someone could shed some light on the images -- I am really intrigued by them. I am guessing they are photogravures but really am not at all sure.
    Thanks!

Hi Jean, stunning portraits, glad your toes is intact!
The man has a hassidic jewish look to me :-)

Thanks Kyra -- I think you are right. I will post a few other close ups I took of the man's portrait. It looks like there might be hebrew on his shirt but I can't really tell.
