signed Thomas Webb "Queens" Burmese Art Glass miniature vase, c. 1880's.

This lovely vase has beautiful "Burmese" coloration in the glass with a delicately scalloped upper rim.

Measures 3 3/8" high and marked "Queens Burmese Ware Patented, Thomas Webb & Sons. Rd. 80167" on base

The Mount Washington Glass Company originally produced Burmese glass as the creation of Frederick Shirley in the early 1880's. The color was achieved by adding uranium oxide and gold to a batch of opal glass which created a yellow opaque glass that became salmon colored when reheated. Further reheating would turn the salmon back to yellow. This glass has a brilliant glow similar to vaseline glass when exposed to a black light.

      thanks racer.
i have a jug and bowl that i will post later.
When i first saw this piece i thought it was nothing because of the pink color but bought it any way so sometimes it pays to go with your gut feeling .

Webb's Burmese is one of the principle reasons I collect fairy lamps.

hi Jim i dont have any fairy lamps but have a matching jug and bowl which is unmarked and seems to be guess work as to the maker. I will post and maybe you can help. Thanks.
